Council finally saw fit to lift their rubber stamp and ratify our DA. Only took seven months. Seven months! For a cookie cutter project home! Hate to think what people have to go through for an architecturally bespoke house.
The DA consent came with a few conditions. Some fair enough, others a bit head scratching.
They have asked us to put privacy screens up to 1.5m from the floor for the alfresco areas facing the side boundary to protect the privacy of my neighbours. Sounds reasonable. But wait, how many people other than children can’t see over 1.5m if they wanted to? And why is it ok to have windows overlooking that same neighbour without a privacy screen? These are questions too profound for me right now. I’ll do as I’m told.
There seems to be quite an intensive administrative process at Eden Brae after DA consent, involving consolidating all the post contract variations and finalising the plans. Have to admit I would have expected these items to be done long ago but it is what it is.
The current estimated start date is probably around mid December (to lay the foundations), but to some extent that’s because my demolition will be completed in late October.
We have tentatively penciled in a move out date of 12-13 October, just after Annie’s birthday. Happy birthday darling! Here’s one of the top five most stressful activities to celebrate your birthday. Love you 😍
In the meantime, the wonderful folks at Eco Demolition have agreed to remove an asbestos roof on my storeroom ahead of the rest of the demolition. This way, I have time to put on a new roof and use the storeroom to put things in that we don’t need over the next year.
Here’s a pic.

It ain’t much to look at. Trust me when I say, it looks even more humble in real life.
Eco Demolition were kind enough to wrap the tarp over the storeroom to protect it from the elements while I wait (probably in vain) for various tradies to quote on the new roof. Seriously, no one wants this job it seems.
Might have to do it myself.
Kevin at Eco Demolition who removed the old roof encouraged me to do it myself and even schooled me on how to install a Colorbond roof! Nice guy – highly recommended.
