Two weeks ago we moved out of our house.
We’ve only been in our house for around six years, but it’s been six Christmases, 12 birthday parties for our kids, numerous random presents and countless episodes of compulsive purchases.
All this stacks up to so much SHIT!
The pain we experienced during the move to pack up our house really emphasised how important it is to keep your possessions in check and make sure that you do a regular spring clean. I’ve decided to make this a new year’s resolution; yes, I know it’s October.
When you have a garage, a storeroom and various other places to store things, the temptation is always to pack something away thinking that you may need it again one day.
But in unpacking our lives out of these various storage rooms and cupboards, I have realised that the odds of actually needing that particular item in the future and actually finding said item are slim to none.
We weren’t quite as bad as this guy:

But it felt like it at times.
The moving day was chaotic. We were not ready for it and were only about half packed, so the movers were moving the furniture while I was frantically packing away possessions at the last minute.
In the end, they stayed for around eight hours and we left quite a few things behind that we have since cleaned out over a couple of weekends.
It’s finally done now. The house is now clear, and the demolition company started today with their prep work.
I’ve never enjoyed moving, but to move with three kids to juggle while we both work full time is something else. That was not an experience that I want to repeat.
I anticipate the move back to be far easier given that we only moved to our temporary home with necessary possessions.
But again, it comes down to us not acquiring much more during the year.
Another new year’s resolution: one in, one out. If I buy something, I am damn well throwing something out.
From here, the demo company should take no more than a fortnight and Eden Brae will hopefully come through with a start date soon.
It’s all looking up!
