Tour de house

We took a tour of the site together earlier this week. It was the first time that Annie has visited the site, and the construction has been going for about six months now!

Needless to say that she was very excited to see the progress in person.

And what progress! First up, we now have a front door.

Our eldest son remarked that he didn’t like the colour. Happily, that’s just the paint of the primer that all the external doors are treated with on delivery. The end colour will be midnight (that’s black in a lexicon that anyone other than a paint marketer would use).

Also, the staircase has been installed. This is exciting for a couple of reasons. First, I’ve always been a sucker for a good staircase. That may be a hang up from my not-so-privileged origins where staircases were a feature of only the nicest houses that I had the pleasure of visiting as a child. Second, it meant that we were able to go upstairs and take a look at our bedrooms.

Our master suit felt enormous. That really shouldn’t have come as a surprise because we obviously chose the floor plan, but still, seeing it in person was something else. The space felt larger than the one bedroom flat we lived in while in London, and I am including not only the bedroom but also the living, dining, kitchen and bathroom in this mental comparison.

Quite surprisingly, the walk-in robe attached to the master bedroom didn’t feel as large as I was expecting. Annie and I agreed that if we had a do-over, we would have asked Eden Brae to extend the wardrobe at the expense of the ensuite, which was far larger than what is really needed.

I suppose it comes down to your own priorities. Annie has a wardrobe that could fill a small department store, so it’s quite clear which amenity we should have prioritised.
