That ain’t gonna fit – take 2

I recently met our new site supervisor, Craig, on-site. Our old supervisor Mark was reassigned to a larger development far enough away from us that it was no longer feasible for him to oversee the last few weeks of our build.

It was good to meet Craig in person and also see the progress that has been made.

Interior painting has largely been completed and the installation of tapware was almost done with the exception of the sink mixer in the gallery kitchen.

When we did our colours appointment in late 2018 (so, so long ago!) the default tapware selection was Dorf Jovian, a line of taps that has since been discontinued by Dorf. It’s a bit angular for my tastes but I think that selection fatigue had set in and we couldn’t be bothered to make a custom selection when neither of us strongly objected to the default. In any case, the final result looks decent enough, if not stunningly beautiful. Here’s the main kitchen sink mixer.

Kitchen sink mixer – Dorf Jovian

To match the sink mixer in the gallery kitchen to the main kitchen, we elected to go with the exact same Dorf Jovian sink mixer. Again, an easy choice as it involved little thinking.

It turns out that we were not the only ones exercising little thought in this process.

The positioning of the extra sink in the gallery kitchen didn’t leave enough space behind it to accommodate the lever of the Jovian mixer:

Gallery kitchen sink…with no mixer

In the end, we had to choose another mixer to resolve the impasse.

🥁 Drumroll please. And the winning tapware is: the Caroma Luna.

Not the most attractive sink mixer you’ve ever seen, but the least ugly of two choices presented to us at the very last minute. I suppose we chose the rock as opposed to the hard place…

We are now so close to the finish line, and (for the most part) so pleased with the work to date, that we just want things done so that we can get on with our lives.

Not having matching sink mixers in the kitchen area isn’t ideal, but if it really bugs me that much after we move in then I’m sure I can switch it out myself later.
