We got an email from Eden Brae last week saying that we are now in the construction phase.
It’s been about 13 months since we signed the fixed price tender.
We signed our tender with Eden Brae in early November 2018. After that, we waited a month for our colours appointment; took another three months to finalise and confirm all selections thanks partly to the three week Christmas shutdown and incredibly slow response rates from the various vendors; council approval took seven months (!) and the remainder was Eden Brae finalising their post-approval processes to ready the construction.
All up, 13 months.
Our fixed price contract period was nine months. Eden Brae extended that from a standard six at no charge when we signed.
Tip: ask for a longer fixed contract period, especially if you need to go through council to get development approval. Save yourself the stress (and money) from being out of the fixed price period and having to deal with price increases.
I also got a call late last week from Mark, our newly assigned site manager. Seemed like a very nice chap on the phone. He gave me a brief professional background and assured me that we were in very good, highly experienced hands.
He thinks that earth works should start in a week or two.
Onwards and upwards!
